Storm Isha - High Water Event managed by New Flood Defences

As Storm Isha hit Scotland last night, the Project Team were on the ground to keep an eye on the situation developing in Hawick. As weather conditions worsened, the new flood defences held the high volume of water in. The team are aware of a localised incident along Lower Mansfield Road due to a sewer and manhole overflow which is currently being investigated.

Project Director, Conor Price, and the Project Team extend a huge thanks to the Scottish Borders Council's Emergency Planning, the Scheme contractors McLaughlin & Harvey and SBcContracts, emergency services, and, especially, the Hawick Volunteer Flood Group for their efforts over the weekend.

This was a second significant high water event since Christmas, during which the new flood defences proved their worth and have held in the water. It is highlighted that both these events would have previously resulted in flooding of parts of Hawick and potentially the need for evacuation to take place.
